Iroquois Stakes 2014 Preview

A competitive group of runners have entered the 2014 Iroquois stakes.  This prep is a Win and Your In to the Breeders Cup Juvenile. Several horses have a shot at running well in this year’s edition.

The Skinny:

Hashtag Bourbon – Was defeated by Mr. Z in his debut race – but had a much tougher trip. Broke slow in that race, made mid race move while running wide and galloping out well down the lane.  In his last start – broke with the field, made a mid-race move and surged to the lead with a quick burst of speed.  Great work pattern and all systems point positive in this race.

Mr. Z – Really like this runner – had string of solid works up to debut race and likes to mix it up.  For a young runner has lots of moxy and composure, not afraid of running with runners and in-between runners.  Has speed – but can come off the pace.  Strong chance.

Bold Conquest was bet hard in debut race and came up short against a horse who was primed to win that day.  last race beat a solid field at Saratoga.  Figures in this spot – may show speed and pedigree points to a big effort at this distance in 3rd career start.  Could run to a new career high in this spot.

Cleveland Sound – won his debut race with authority and then was tossed into a full field in 2nd career race. Ran wide last race and made a couple of moves in a race that had blazing pace and fell apart late.  Eligible to improve, last race is better than looks – long-term may not have much upside but fits with Grade 2 level.

The Choice:

Hashtag Bourbon is the choice for me – still some upside.  Mr. Z is very logical and has the chance of improving the most and dominating the race.  For me it’s those two on all tickets.
