Derby Ponderings on Midweek March Night

Questions from a Triple Crown Fan on a Wednesday night in March:

How Good is Social Inclusion:  Sure he was the lone speed in a 5-horse field.  Re-watch his maiden win when he broke 3 lengths slow and rushed up the rail to win by 7.  Two fast 3 furlong works in the last 7 days.  This horse was sitting on a big race!  Hope they don’t sell.  Having an 85 year old trainer on the Derby trail is fun for everyone.

What about Bayern?  No starts at 2.  No route races and basically one prep for the Kentucky Derby is not the ideal plan.  Pure talent has been on display in both starts.  Arkansas Derby for final prep?

Bobby’s Kitten class, speed and talent.  Looking to parlay a poly prep at the Bluegrass to a Derby start.  Full field possible for Bluegrass so will need a good post position.  Talent has been on display all along, raw speed and the turf races have allowed him to develop.  Here a Kitten, There a Kitten, Everywhere a Kitten!

California Chrome romp in the San Felipe reminded me of Sunday Silence in the Santa Anita Derby in 1989.  Raw speed, class and honed to perfection and then set down for the drive.  Nothing better Watching a speed horse do his thing and controlling the race from start to finish.  Just like Holy Bull and Lost Code used to do.  California Chrome joined a short list of dominating winners in the last 20 years.

Samraat doesn’t know he’s a New York Bred, Samraat doesn’t know that he won the Damon Runyon Stakes.  All Samraat knows is winning.  Five for Five and going to the Wood as the probable favorite.  Was not really asked in last two starts.  Something tells me he is ready to run a monster soon.  Will it be the Wood or the Derby?  Looking forward to Rocky III in the Wood.  Speed Figures keep on going up and so does his earnings.

Tapiture vs Strong Mandate:  They have met twice.  Strong Mandate won at Saratoga.  Tapiture crushed in the Southwest.  Take 3 is this Saturday in the Rebel.  This time it’s personal!

Fun Trainers:  This year’s Tales from the Triple Crown are going to be fun.   Manny Azpurua, Rick Violette, Gary Contessa, Art Sherman, have stories to tell and in the age of Social Media people are ready to listen!

State Breds:  California Chrome, Wildcat Red, Vicar’s In Trouble, Samraat and Uncle Sigh make this year’s Derby Trail a regional rivalry!

Speed:  Ring Weekend, California Chrome, Wildcat Red, Uncle Sigh, General A Rod, Samraat, and Vicar’s In Trouble have all won races wire to wire and bring speed to the party!

PioneeroftheNile VS Tapitology 101:  Wearing Blue Trunks with the Red Trim are the Niles:  Led by Cairo Prince, Vinceramos and Social Inclusion.  In the White Trucks wearing a Tongue Tie are the Tapits:  Constitution, Tapiture, Tonalist, Ring Weekend and Untapable.

It’s starting to get very interesting!
