The Breeders Cup Classic field is slowly started to take place.  The additions of Cigar Street, Big Cazanova and Candy Boy bring the prospective field to 13 horses.  Post Positions and final complexion of the field will ultimately dictate wagering strategy.  Below are 5 “Classic” questions that depending on your answer will help guide your selection process

#1 California Chrome:

California Chromes won 6 straight races with the same game plan.  Lead by 3 lengths or more at the stretch call:

California Chrome Winning Streak

Chrome Running Style

Will California Chrome lead Bayern, Moreno, Big Cazanova and Cigar Street by 3 lengths at the top of the stretch?

# 2 Tonalist

Tonalist has recorded 3 of his 4 lifetime wins at Belmont Park

Tonalist Belmont Lover

Tonalist the King the Big Sandy

Is Tonalist more than just the King of Big Sandy?

#3 Majestic Harbor

Majestic Harbor won the Gold Cup on real dirt.  He has wins at 12 furlong and 10 furlongs this year:

Majestic Harbor

Majestic Harbor – Likes Distance and Santa Anita

Can Majestic Harbor bounce back from subpar efforts at a track and distance he has competed at successfully in the past?

#4 Speed:

Running Styles for the Top Contenders indicate a strong pace:

  • Bayern – Early speed
  • Moreno – Need to Lead
  • Big Cazanova – Early Speed/Need to Lead
  • Cigar Street – Presser
  • California Chrome – Early/Presser

Who can adapt their running style the most to manage the race flow of the Classic?

#5 Cigar Street

Can Cigar Street turn back the clock to his Gulfstream form two winters ago when he was a rising star and losing to the Mad Russian in the Louisiana Derby?   With 5 wins in 8 starts and never higher than 4/1 odds.

Cigar Street

King of the Layoff Lines

This horse is higher maintenance than @chare889 and @horseflynwall combined.  Can he overcome all the injures and shine on the biggest stage?

The Best is Yet to Come!
