2014 Juvenile Fillies Breeders Cup Preview

Some talented fillies line up in an Original Breeders Cup race.  Some big names have won in the past.

The Skinny:

Angela Renee had the perfect trip in last race after flopping in the mud in 2nd career start.  Has a pedigree for distance and has been training at Santa Anita for over a month.  Good current form, but is facing tougher than last race.  Has enough speed to establish position and had a long stamina building work on Sunday.

Cristina’s Journey impressed visually if not on the clock in last race.  Made a solid mid race move and took the lead down the backstretch with natural ability.  Has shown speed but relaxes well and I think she can come off the pace if needed.  Longshot with a chance.

Conquest Eclipse made a threatening long move into the stretch before losing last race.  Sharp works and good speed means she may turn the tables on Angela Renee.  Tough to toss of tickets and all systems are go.  Last work indicates she may be sitting on a big race.  Smooth stride and a win early pedigree.  Trainer has yet to win a Breeders Cup race.  This may be the one who gets Mark Casse “off the duck”

Wonder Gal ran a freaky debut race and then had a rough trip.  Trained superb for the last race and caught an off track.  Better than that race and has been working long workouts.  Big shot and one with a lot of upside.  They have changed jockeys, changed running styles and now ship across the country.

Feathered ran a sneaky good race in the Frizette, was taken off the pace and is capable of showing more speed.  Expect her to be on the engine in this race and near the pace.  Maiden win was a knockout race and figures to be in the mix.  Expecting her to be near the pace and in a striking position entering the stretch.  10/1 solid odds.

Puca ran off the charts in maiden breaker but that was with slow fractions.  Faces increased speed pressure in this race.  Nice horse but this is a tall task.  Long term will probably be better on the turf.  Owners of this horse like to spot horses aggressively in big race days.  May be a little over her head.

Top Decile got shuffled back last race and made up ground before getting outrun late.  Expect her to be closer to the pace.  Sharp maiden win and good connections should be a good spot for her to show her best.  Barn and Owners are hot right now and looks like a router.  Outside post didn’t help, but with the speed signed on it may be good to be on the outside when the running begins.

By the Moon ran a bang up race in the Frizette.  That was a tiring, demanding racetrack.  She went to the lead in that race and took them by surprise.  On paper the race looks slow.  But I think she doesn’t need the lead and expect another strong race. Does have to ship and go 2 turns.  She may drift up in price and has goof form coming into the race.  Bad post position draw will keep her out of the winners circle.

Danette is still a maiden after 5 tries.  But this daughter of Curlin has improved and has faced many of the west coast top juveniles.  Should be running late and fits in this race, but several horses would have to regress for her to win.

The Selection:

Feathered I expect to show more speed and be a part of the pace battle.  Slop race was not to her liking and ran evenly.  Top Decile is better than last race and should be nice odds. Conquest Eclipse is a must use in Doubles and Pic 3.s

Tosses:

Angela Renee – I like To Honor and Serve but she figures to regress and facing a full field and more speed looms as an underlay.  Puca 16 length win is misleading.
